Ted Peckels Graveside services for Ted Eugene Peckels, formerly of Colton, will be at 11 a.m. today at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton. He died of complications from surgery Friday at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center. He was 73.

Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside is handling arrangements.

Mr. Peckels was born in Colton, where he lived 18 years. He lived in Riverside 48 years. He owned the House of Note music store in Riverside in the 1960s and in 1978 bought Cooper’s Action Music, which he operated until his death. Under the company name Bartell Guitars, he made guitars and amplifiers in the 1960s, including a fretless electric bass guitar and double-necked electric guitar. His work was featured in Guitar Player magazine, said his son, Mark Peckels of Riverside.

Mr. Peckels served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He belonged to the Eliminators Car Club and was interested in land speed racing. He raced a Mazda RX7 on high desert dry lakes in San Bernardino County.

In addition to his son, Mark, he is survived by his wife, Donna; a daughter, Becky Koenig of Riverside; two other sons, David of Long Beach and Gary of Moreno Valley; six grandchildren; his mother, Frances Bourns of Colton; and a sister, Jackie Walker of Oregon.
